Museum of Oxford

The Museum of Oxford is the only museum dedicated to telling the story of Oxford and its people.

Opened in October 2021, the museum has tripled in size, including a new shop, two new galleries, exciting interactives as well as educational and community spaces. Located in Oxford’s Grade II* listed Town Hall at the centre of the city, it provides a fantastic starting point to a visit to the city.

Two new galleries show the changing story of Oxford through its history and people, from Romans and Anglo-Saxons to the first Cowley factory workers, the infamous Cutteslowe Walls and the city’s rich heritage through times of conflict and industry. Through objects, video, audio and interactive displays, the exhibitions uncover what makes Oxford such a special place to live, work and study.

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, last entry is at 4.30pm.

Entrance is free, but we welcome donations to support the museum’s services

We recommend you book in advance to avoid disappointment. The Museum is wheelchair accessible and the Town Hall has level access via the north entrance near Carfax Tower.
